The moonchild rose up one morning and looked towards the sky. How she longed to be up there with the suns and the stars, but alas she could not. She walked and thought about how she could reach the, at which point she came across a path. "I haven't seen this path before" she thought to herself, so she decided to follow it to see where it went. As she walked the path, she became aware of being followed. Twice she turned around and saw nothing. She turned around again. "Who's there?" she shouted. There was a little sniff and she ran back towards it. "Where are you?" she called out. She heard a little sniffle from below. She looked down and saw a small wihte flower, crying. "Why are you following me?" she asked of the flower. "Sorry", the flower sniffed, "but I could not miss that you seemed to be looking for something". The moon child looked at the flower carefully, and as she watched, she saw a tear roll down its petal. "You seem to be looking for something to", replied the moonchild. The flower looked up. "I am", she said. "I've not seen anyone on this path for several years. I'd given up hope of someone finding me and talking". The moonchild gave a weak smile. "I was just wondering how I could reach the stars", she said, and looked up. "I thought all beauty was up there. I came across this path whilst thinking. I'd never seen it before". She looked down at the flower. "I didn't realise so much beauty could come from down here". The flower shed another tear and smiled. "Noone has ever said that to me before". The flower looked up at the stars. "They are beautiful aren't they. I'm not suprised you want to be among them". She looked away again. The moonchild thought for a few moments. She looked up at the stars and saw the beauty among them all. But oh! How many to choose from. She looked back at the flower and saw that, on closer inspection it wasn't quite as beautiful as the stars, yet there was only one flower compared to the hundreds of stars she could count, which enhanced the flowers beuaty to tenfold of the stars. "You're better than the stars", she said. The flower looked up. "Really?" The moonchild nodded. "Why should I bother trying to strive to the beauty of the stars when even more beauty is here now, beside me". She looked at the flower and smiled. The flower saw the smile and shed yet another tear. But the moonchild could see it was a different kind of tear. It had more life to it as it rolled down the petal. The flower was happy. "Will you come and see me everyday?", the flower asked. "I will", replied the moonchild. She looked up at the starts and sighed as she thought of what could be, but she knew was impossible. Then she looked down at the flower, and the flower looked up at her. It was the first time they had both looked at each other. And at that moment, the moonchild forgot about the stars, and picked the flower up. "We'll have fun together", she said to the flower. "what do you mean?", the flower asked. "I'll show you the rest of the world. You've been left here so long you don't realise what's changed". The flower's eyes opened. "You will?!" she asked in astonishment. The moonchild nodded. "Thank you! Oh thank you!", the flower said. "There is a condition though", said the moonchild. The flower's face dropeed. "What?" "You must promise tostop shedding those tears. You look much more beautiful happy". The flower gave a wide smile. "I can do that". The moonchild nodded and, with the flower, they took the path and returned to the moonchilds home. The flower, on realising it's new friend, started to bloom more and more each day, and each new day more hapiness was shared. And no longer did the moonchild wish for the stars.
